New Book and CD Experience: Dan Random Somewhere Called Now

A few weeks ago, I made a rather startling discovery.  Our neighborhood has been hiding a talented musician and author!  In fact, this is a guy who's house I have visited for oyster roasts and who's kid plays tennis with mine!  How did I not know that Dan Random lived down the street from me? My husband and I were lucky enough to get an invite to his latest book release party and concert for Somewhere Called Now and I thought I would share some information about this great new book and CD experience.  This post contains affiliate links if you … [Read more...]

Music and Teens: Bonding over Panic! At The Disco – Death Of A Bachelor

Music and teens seem to always go together, right? You rarely see a teenager without earbuds in their ears! We have always been a very musical family.  From toddler music classes to marching band, my kids have always enjoyed the art of music.  My husband and son are passionate rock music fans and often enjoy going to concerts together.  My daughter and I have more alternative preferences in music and she regularly shares her love of all things musical to keep me updated on her favorite bands. We have an understanding that if I need help cooking … [Read more...]

Choosing the Right Wine for Your Meal Without Knowing Much About Wine!

If you enjoy entertaining guests, choosing the right wine for your meal can be a challenge. My husband and I enjoy a glass of wine now and then. While we certainly do not consider ourselves wine snobs,  we can definitely taste the difference between a $3.00 bottle of wine and a $25.00 bottle.  I have learned over the years that I have definite preferences in terms of the variety of wine I enjoy.  The food I serve with it also plays a big part in how the wine actually tastes.  Food and wine can compliment one another or hinder your ability to … [Read more...]

If You Could Be Mine by Sara Farizan

In If You Could Be Mine by Sara Farizan, Sahar has been in love with her best friend, Nasrin, since they were six. But Iran is a dangerous place for two girls in love.   This is a book that my teenage daughter read and absolutely loved.  She recommended I read it when we headed over to London last week so I took it along to keep me busy on the flight.  Let me just say that the person sitting next to me heard some serious sobbing as I finished this story! While there were a few things I didn't like about the book, overall it is moving and brings … [Read more...]

A Cell Phone for Teens Only Works When It’s Charged!

This discussion about charging a cell phone for teens has been sponsored by ANKER but all opinions expressed here are my own.Everyone has their own rules for when they think their child is ready for a cell phone.  When my kids were in middle school, they had little flip phones that were strictly for calling home for a ride.  They were rarely used and the charge on that thing lasted forever.  Once my kids hit high school, they were given their first smart phones.  Well, all of a sudden, there are a million things they can do on their … [Read more...]

Olloclip Photo Lens for iPhone Macro Photography

Since I started blogging, I have become quite a passionate photographer.  I seem to take my DSLR camera everywhere to take photos of my family, nature, and (of course) food!  My husband recently got me an Olloclip photo lens for my iPhone as an anniversary gift and I have started realizing that my DSLR is only seeing 'the big picture' when it comes to photography.  I wanted to share my experience in iPhone macro photography over the last month or so in case you want to delve into the world of macro photography for yourself.  If you aren't … [Read more...]

Review of Me Before You Movie and an Emotional Movie Night with My Daughter

Last night was movie night with my teen daughter since the boys were out enjoying a rock concert for the evening.  I decided to share my review of Me Before You because I was truly moved by this story.  It was number one on my daughter's list of movies to watch and I am so glad we watched it together.  It was incredibly emotional but gave us a few good things to talk about after the movie was finished.  I would classify this one as a romantic tragedy I think with the primary talking points being assisted suicide and living your life as boldly … [Read more...]
