Teenagers and Technology: Negotiating their Expensive Wish List

Teenagers and technology seem to go hand in hand nowadays and it can be a pricey combination. When my children were small, their wish list was relatively easy to handle.  They wanted small things that were fairly inexpensive.  I bought tons of LEGO (ok, not THAT cheap!) and art supplies (thank you, Michaels coupons!) and they were happy as clams on Christmas and Birthdays.  But, now I have teenagers and all of a sudden my gift budget just isn't going to make a dent in the wish list they have in their heads. The primary desire of my teenagers is … [Read more...]

How to Protect Electronics during Summer Fun!

Summer is here and we have loads of things planned in the coming months.  We will spend plenty of time in the garden and hanging out at the pool.  Our visit to see family up north will include kids on trampolines, a trip to the beach, and plenty of time in a hot car.  My teens are connected to their phones constantly and knowing how to protect electronics during summer fun can save a ton of money on repairs and replacement.  If you have electronics that you are trying to keep safe during summer fun, I thought I would share a few tips that might … [Read more...]

A Cell Phone for Teens Only Works When It’s Charged!

This discussion about charging a cell phone for teens has been sponsored by ANKER but all opinions expressed here are my own.Everyone has their own rules for when they think their child is ready for a cell phone.  When my kids were in middle school, they had little flip phones that were strictly for calling home for a ride.  They were rarely used and the charge on that thing lasted forever.  Once my kids hit high school, they were given their first smart phones.  Well, all of a sudden, there are a million things they can do on their … [Read more...]

Olloclip Photo Lens for iPhone Macro Photography

Since I started blogging, I have become quite a passionate photographer.  I seem to take my DSLR camera everywhere to take photos of my family, nature, and (of course) food!  My husband recently got me an Olloclip photo lens for my iPhone as an anniversary gift and I have started realizing that my DSLR is only seeing 'the big picture' when it comes to photography.  I wanted to share my experience in iPhone macro photography over the last month or so in case you want to delve into the world of macro photography for yourself.  If you aren't … [Read more...]

This post about the Best Buy Tech Home has been compensated, however, all opinions expressed here are my own. The reviewer has been compensated in the form of a Best Buy Gift Card and/or received the product/service at a reduced price or for free.A few weeks ago, my husband and I were in bed on a Saturday night and it was after 11 PM.  All of a sudden, our doorbell rings!  We look at each other in confusion, the dog starts barking like mad and  we make our way downstairs tentatively to see who is at our door at this horrible hour.  Of … [Read more...]

Online Safety Tips for Children No Parent Should Ignore

All parents should familiarize themselves with an assortment of online safety tips for children given the amount of questionable content that is floating around on the internet.  When my children were little it was relatively easy to keep them safe.  They stayed with me at all times...I was there to catch them if they fell and kiss any and all booboos that needed attention.  Now that they are teens it is a lot harder to keep them safe.  They are not with me 24/7 anymore.  They want to go off with their friends without mom trailing along behind … [Read more...]

Protecting Kids from Questionable Content on TV

This post about protecting your child from questionable content on TV has been sponsored by XFINITY but all opinions are my own.Are you worried about your kids watching questionable content on TV? When my kids were young, I was a bit of a control freak over the remote control to the television.  I didn't want them to be watching Dora one minute only to have them hit the 'channel up' button and end up on the news watching the latest gang shooting.  Step out of the room for even a minute and it's amazing the kind of questionable content they … [Read more...]

Why You Need to Start Live Streaming TV Channels Online

This post about live streaming TV channels online is part of a paid partnership with XFINITY.  All opinions are my own. When my kids were little, they were always underfoot. I was home with them all day, every day. Half the time there was a toddler clinging to my leg and a preschooler lying on the floor by my feet playing with toys.  There were days where I craved alone time like you would not believe.  Well, now I have teenagers.  There are days that they only come out of their rooms for food or bathroom breaks.  And they are stealthy about … [Read more...]

This year, my husband decided he wanted to get the family the Amazon Echo for a Christmas gift.  Which basically means, he wanted the Amazon Echo and Christmas was a good excuse to buy it!  Ever since, I have been researching things you can do with the Amazon Echo to make life easier.  What is the sense in having technology in the house if it can't solve a few problems here or there, right?  First off, you might be wondering what is Amazon Echo, right?  Basically, it is Amazon Prime, Google, Wink hub,  and Siri all wrapped up in one very simple … [Read more...]
