Summer is upon us! The kids are home from school, family schedules slow down and more people take a few days off to rest and relax. Diving into a few inspirational books for women as you lounge poolside is a great way to pass a lazy, summer day. Or, maybe you’re heading to the beach and want a light read with a moving message. Beach reads aren’t always known for being great literary works, but do you really want to be reading “War and Peace” while you soak up the sun?

Here are some of the best inspirational books to read

Here are four books you might want to throw in your beach bag before you head out the door.

1. “Where’d You Go, Bernadette?” by Maria Semple

This is a humorous drama about a family in crisis after the disappearance of its brilliant, misanthropic matriarch. It’s an easy read and a touching novel about misplaced genius and a mother and daughter’s role in an absurd world.

2. “Lots of Candles, Plenty of Cake: A Memoir of a Woman’s Life,” by Anna Quindlen

In this memoir, Anna Quindlen writes about a woman’s life, from childhood memories to manic motherhood to middle age. She uses the events of her life to illuminate others’. This candid, funny and moving story is a great choice if you’re looking for inspirational books for women.

3. “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret,” by Judy Blume

If you’re seeking a blast from the past, consider re-reading this famous coming-of-age novel. In this book, Margaret just wants to fit in with her new friends but struggles with issues like religion, puberty and adolescent angst. It’s a classic and practically a rite of passage for preteen girls!

4. “The Chance,” by Karen Kingsbury

This is a heartwarming story about childhood friends, broken lives and a long-ago promise that just might offer the hope of love for today. It’s a moving tale of heart-wrenching loss, the power of faith, and the wounds that only a forever kind of love can heal.
