Valentine's Day is coming up quickly and this easy DIY lip scrub recipe is the perfect way to ensure that your lips are soft, smooth and kissable for the big day.  If you are anything like me, winter wreaks havoc on your lips.  The dry air and cold temperatures mean that I have chapped lips much more often in winter than I do in summer.  Despite frequent applications of lip balm, sometimes they just start to feel rough and need a bit of polishing up.  I took 5 minutes today to put together this homemade lip scrub and it is the perfect solution for lips that need a bit of smoothing and moisturizing!  I will include a few affiliate links along with the recipe if you want to try it for yourself.

Which Oil for DIY Lip Scrubs

I chose to use coconut oil for this DIY lip scrub.  Yes, you do get a hint of coconut aroma from the scrub, however, I like the solidity of coconut oil when making scrubs.  You get a much thicker scrub than if you use a liquid oil.  Coconut oil is also high in vitamin E which is very good for skin.  If you don't mind a more liquidy scrub, you can use jojoba oil, which is also very good for the skin.  The recipe is flexible so play around with it!

Scents and Add-Ins

I chose to make a lavender sugar scrub for lips because I love the scent and I had dried lavender in the pantry.  You can certainly use whichever essential oils you prefer.  Adding a number of different 'add-ins' for your lip scrub is also a great way to make a unique lip scrub.  Dried lavender gives your homemade lip scrub a lovely visual appeal.  Rose petals, ground coffee, or bits of lemon peel are all great additions to your homemade scrub.  As long as the add-ins are small, you won't even notice them when you use the lip scrub.

Once your scrub is finished, you can store it in small glass jars for yourself or gift it to friends.

I love this. I have been getting into making beauty products. A good lip scrub is perfect as we enter into summer!
