When you have way too many cucumbers:

Over the last couple of weeks I have harvested approximately 10 pounds worth of cucumbers from my garden.  That, my friends, is about 9 pounds more than anyone in my house really wants to eat!  I have been trying to find new ways to use cucumbers rather than force feeding them to my family.

Yesterday I made a cucumber basil sugar scrub recipe that was amazingly refreshing.  That used up a whole ONE cucumber.  I need a LOT more creative ways to use cucumbers than that so I hit the internet and started searching.

I thought I would share a few ways to use up cucumbers with you, in case your own family is protesting their cucumber intake this month.  Let me know if you have any other ways to use cucumbers ...the basket in the refrigerator is still pretty full!

How to Use Cucumbers For Beauty

Whether you want to use cucumber slices to get rid of your dark eye circles or apply the cucumber juice to your tiny eye wrinkles, don't let one bit of your garden harvest go to waste this month!

Soothe tired and puffy eyes:

If you stayed up too late or have a cold, your eyes may be a bit tired and puffy.  Minimize that puffiness with a few slices of cucumbers.  Slice 2 pieces of cucumber and lay one over each eye.

How long do you keep cucumbers on your face? Let them sit for about 10 minutes or so.  Cucumbers are loaded with anti oxidants that will be absorbed through the skin to soothe your tired eyes.

Take the redness out of blemishes:

Is rubbing cucumber on your face good? It is if you have problems with pimples!  If you suffer from the occasional acne breakout, you can take the redness out with a slice of cucumber.  This is one creative way to use up cucumbers that even my teens can appreciate!

Sunburn relief:

Laying slices of cucumber on your skin will take the sting out of a sunburn.  You can also make a puree in a food processor and slather it on, although that is a tad bit messier!

Health benefits of cucumbers

Detox water:

Making a homemade detox water will help flush toxins out of your body.  Drinking lots of this detox water will also help hydrate your skin, which naturally reduces some signs of aging.  Get a large glass pitcher and make up a big batch.

Reduce the signs of cellulite:

Is cucumber anti aging? It definitely may help keep your skin looking and feeling  young! Rub a slice or two of cucumbers along your cellulite problem area for a few minutes.  The phytochemicals in the cucumber help the collagen in your skin to tighten up, thus reducing the appearance of cellulite.

Hangover prevention:

Having a hangover is NEVER pretty!  Eat a cucumber before you go to bed after a night of overindulging.  They are loaded with water, electrolytes and B vitamins as well as a little bit of sugar.  All of those things will go a long way towards helping you feel better the next morning!  If that doesn't work, you can find a ton of hangover remedies on Amazon.

Cucumber Basil Sugar Scrub Recipe for Dry Skin

As a body scrub:

Does cucumber brighten skin? Cucumbers are GREAT for the skin and when combined with sugar and coconut oil you have a wonderful skin treatment for dry, aging skin.  This is one of my favorite ways to use cucumbers.  Check out my cucumber basil sugar scrub recipe for a little skin pampering this weekend!

Make a cucumber steam bath:

The aroma of cucumbers is incredibly refreshing and a steam facial helps keep your pores clean.  Chop up a cucumber and place in a large glass bowl.  Pour a few cups of boiling water over the top of the cucumber.

Place your face 6 to 12 inches above the water and create a 'tent' over your head with a towel.  Breath deeply and relax as your skin becomes healthier and younger looking!  Check out my post about my DIY steam facial for more ideas.

Cure bad breath:

Chewing cucumber slices after a meal with help eliminate bad breath.  They contain phytochemicals which kill the bad breath causing bacteria. Raw cucumber also increases salivation and neutralizes the pH of your mouth.

Take a cool bath:

Cool off on a hot day while pampering your skin at the same time.  Into a tub of cool water add 2 cups Epsom salt, 1 sliced cucumber, a handful of crushed peppermint leaves, and a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Relax and enjoy!

From cucumber face wash to homemade detox water, you can do so much more with extra cucumbers than just make pickles.  Do you have any other ways to use cucumbers in your natural beauty routine? Like this post?  Try this one, too:
