We are a family of snackers. My kids are forever telling me that they are hungry and the first thing my husband does when walking in the door after work is head to the pantry. I try hard to limit the ‘bagged snacks’ (ie chips and junkfood) to a weekend treat. Most days our snacks are healthier options like fruit, granola bars, and trail mix. Eating Cheetos and cookies all week is NOT a smart choice if I want to fit into my pants! When I was sent some information about National Trail Mix Day by SunRidge Farms, I was thrilled to be able to try out a selection of their trail mixes. I honestly never knew there WAS such a thing as National Trail Mix Day! If you aren’t familiar with SunRidge Farms, here is some information about them from their website:
SunRidge Farms™ is a true innovator in organic and natural bulk and packaged nuts & seeds, dried fruit, candies, and snack & trail mixes. Our commitment to natural ingredient development means nutritional products that are free of unhealthy refined sugars, hydrogenated oils, artificial colorings, and preservatives. Within each of our snack categories we offer a wide variety of naturally flavorful ingredients to satisfy every taste.
SunRidge Farms has a great selection of trail mix to choose from including many organic varieties. They are chock full of nuts, seeds, and dried fruit. You can choose tropical blends, mixes with a little added chocolate, and they even have a blend that is specifically designed for women called the Women’s Vitality Mix. It is high in calcium and iron and has lots of antioxidants in it!
National Trail Mix Day is August 31st. Ever wonder who exactly invented trail mix? There are theories that suggest two California surfers invented trail mix in 1968 by blending peanuts and raisins together for an energy snack. My mom used to serve us GORP (Good Old Raisins and Peanuts) when I was a kid! Of course, trail mix like snacks were popular with everyone from ancient nomads, Native Americans and explorers way before California surfers! But, did you know that SunRidge Farms was the FIRST company to offer ORGANIC trail mix? It’s true…it was introduced in 1982 and is about to celebrate it’s 30th birthday! Since then, they have come out with about 20 other trail mixes so no matter what your favorite blend is, SunRidge Farms probably has a trail mix you will enjoy!

For my review, I received a nice selection of trail mixes including the Organic Deluxe Trail Mix, Women’s Vitality Mix, Berries and Chocolate Antioxidant Mix, and the Organic Cranberry Harvest Mix. They range from about 6 to 8 ounces for each package, depending on the ingredients. All of their trail mixes are free of additives, artificial flavors, and preservatives and their topical fruits are free of sulfites.
I can honestly say, the SunRidge Farms trail mixes are delicious. The dried fruits are very tender and moist, the nuts are crunchy, and there is a huge variety of ingredients in each of them. This trail mix is the perfect balance between of sweet, flavorful, healthy and filling. Of course, having a bit of a chocolate obsession, I liked the Berries and Chocolate Antioxidant Mix the best. The chocolate bits are bigger than just chocolate chips…they are nice sized pieces that really help fulfill your chocolate craving! And I really love the huge dried cherries in this mix, too. Cherries and chocolate are the perfect combination!
