This Mexican hot chocolate mix is a delicious way to warm yourself up from the inside out.  Enjoying a mug of hot cocoa is one of the things I love most about the colder weather.  Sure, I could drink hot chocolate in the summer but who does that?  I have discovered over the last few years that I love Mexican hot chocolate.  If you aren't familiar with this hot cocoa recipe, it is basically a traditional hot cocoa mix that also has cinnamon, chili powder, nutmeg and/or cayenne pepper in it.  The addition of these warming spices to the already delicious hot chocolate mix give it an amazingly complex flavor.

Mexican Hot Chocolate Mix in a Jar

There are a few different recipes for Mexican hot chocolate out there and you can adjust the spices to your own personal tastes.  I put together this Mexican hot chocolate mix as a mason jar gift but you could certainly just add the ingredients to a pan of warm milk to serve to your own family. For a variation on this hot chocolate mix in a jar, you can actually buy Mexican chocolate (affiliate link) and use that instead of the chocolate chips.  Since I didn't have any on hand, I just used plain chocolate chips.

I actually had something similar to this at a Chocolate Museum and it was a yummy combination. I like a little heat and chocolate.
