Many years ago, my parent bought an extremely old Victorian style home that was in serious need of repair. As in, my mother did not want to sleep in the house until my dad got the ceilings back where they belonged. Over the years, they have replaced not only the ceilings but also renovated just about every other part of the house as well. You would never know today that this house was in such bad shape when it was first purchased. When I take a wander around the house with my dad, he loves telling stories about how he repaired this or that part of the house. I find it fascinating and am honestly in awe of how he accomplished everything. I have always wanted to be more of a home repair type person but lack the skills needed to really do it myself.
Have you ever dreamed up your perfect home? Do you sit around staring at your floor plan and wonder what would happen if you knocked out a wall or built on an extension to a room? Have you ever dreamed of building or designing your own home from the ground up? If you are a DIY home building sortof person, you may have already seen the DIY Network’s interactive home building series called Blog Cabin. This year, they have invited fans to design the network’s 2013 vacation home getaway. Fans get to vote on key design elements such as the kitchen, master suite, color palette, fixtures, amenities and more. You will be helping host Chris Grundy and a team of DIY Network experts transform a 1895 cottage into a modern-day coastal retreat. In addition, fans can also vote for a variety of home accents and housewarming gifts that will complete this yearโs Blog Cabin.
