Every year, my neighbor hosts a Thanksgiving leftovers party on the day after Thanksgiving. Everyone seems to have an abundance of leftovers in the refrigerator that day, right? And aren’t someone else’s leftovers WAY more exciting than your own? Aren’t you always wondering what to do with Thanksgiving leftovers? I know I certainly am! Thanksgiving leftovers can also be made into creative new recipes. A little of this and a tad bit of that can all be combined in creative ways to make all new creations. I always make delicious turkey enchiladas with my leftover turkey. However, I wanted to create something totally new this year so I got started early with this Turkey & Sweet Potato RITZwich Recipe. I tried out my new turkey recipe on a few friends this weekend just to see how they liked it. I thought they turned out delicious!
A Thanksgiving Leftovers Party can be as simple or as creative as you want it to be. You can just call up friends and family and tell them to grab a container of food from their fridge and show up at a specific time. But, if you really want to throw an exciting Thanksgiving Leftovers party, here are a few tips. For more party ideas, you can head over to the NABISCO Party Planner!
Thanksgiving Leftovers Party Tips
- Send Thanksgiving Leftover themed party invitations. Inside of your party invitation, tuck a few printed recipes for your friends and family to make with their leftovers in case they need inspiration. Let them know what YOU will be providing (ie bread for turkey sandwiches or whipped cream for pies, etc).
- Decorations: To decorate for your Thanksgiving leftover party, just keep up your decorations from Thanksgiving Day! Tablecloths, banners, paper plates, etc are all inexpensive decor items.
- Thanksgiving Leftover party activities: Ask everyone to bring canned goods for the food bank or take up a donation to a worthy cause. On this day of plenty, we should share with the less fortunate! Host a recipe exchange (ask people ahead of time to bring their written recipe) or watch taped shows like The Charlie Brown Thanksgiving or the Macy’s Day parade.
- Keep things low key: Most people overworked themselves on Thanksgiving preparing a big meal and getting the house in shape for company. Make sure people know that your Thanksgiving Leftovers party will be a casual affair. Board games and yoga pants are about as energetic as you should expect!
Keep in mind when putting together your Thanksgiving Leftovers recipe that it doesn’t have to be complicated. These Turkey & Sweet Potato RITZwiches took only minutes to put together but were a delicious and attractive addition to the table. Just tuck your sweet potatoes, turkey and cranberry sauce in between two Ritz Crackers. Takes only a few minutes and you can be back to socializing! Keeping things low key is a great tip. There is a lot to do on Thanksgiving!
What a creative idea for your leftovers! I don’t believe I’ve ever seen anyone put that all on a cracker.
Okay, now these are a great idea. Sometimes having left overs by themselves can be so boring. Thanks for this idea
Yum. I can’t wait for Thanksgiving. Looks great.
This looks amazing! I love the idea of using leftovers like this as a snack, yummy!
