Every year my husband and I try to tuck away a small amount of money into a college fund for our kids.  College tuition is not cheap and I have less than 5 years before my first child heads off in search of higher learning.  While we have high hopes that they qualify for a scholarship, I am not keeping my fingers crossed.  Of course, looking at our pitifully small savings so far, we are going to have to be frugal when college time  finally gets here.  One way to cut back on expenses when your kid gets to college is to rent text books instead of buying them.  Some text books costs hundreds of dollars each and many are out of date so quickly that campus book stores will not buy them back.  That is a waste of money that many families (ours included) just cannot afford.  I wish it was possible to rent textbooks when I was in college...would you believe I STILL have college textbooks sitting in my bookcase?  Like I am ever going to need a textbook about electron microscopy any time soon, right?

CampusBookRentals.com is a great resource to utilize if you want to rent textbooks.  You can save 40-90% off of bookstore prices and shipping is free when you purchase AND when you send them back at the end of the year.  If you decide you want to keep your books at the end of the semester, just pay them the difference and the books are all yours.  And if you have to drop a class or decide you just don't want the book you can return it within 21 days for a full refund.   If you like to highlight as you study, that is allowed too.  Just do it respectfully, knowing that others will be renting the book after you.  They have a new initiative called RentBack  that allows students to rent the textbooks they own - to other students!  You can make  two to four times more money compared to what you would make through buyback options! If you would like more information about how to rent textbooks, check out the video below!

To date, CampusBookRentals.com has helped students save on textbooks at over 5,000 different campuses worldwide and for every book rental they make a donation to Operation Smile.  Operation Smile is is an international children's medical charity dedicated to healing children's smiles.  They provide safe, effective reconstructive surgery and related medical care for children born with facial deformities such as cleft lip and cleft palate. These are horribly disfiguring diseases and every book rental you make at CampusBookRentals.com will help make a huge difference in a child's life.  If you are trying to cut college costs, consider renting your textbooks and at the same time, know that a small percentage of your purchase is going towards a good cause!

I really could have used this when I was in college. Text books always put me over budget.

I wish they would have had this when I was in school. I still remember buying a $150 book and we used it once for 2 pages.
