Have you ever planned to have a few people over and then created so much work for yourself that you swear you will never do it again? I do that every single time we have guests. I have great intentions and want to wow them with my superior culinary skills and then get so overwhelmed I am no longer having any fun! With the holidays coming up quickly, I needed to find an easy appetizer or two for our next get together. I loved my easy smoked salmon recipe but want something to offer the vegetarians on my guest list! This pear crostini recipe takes only 10 minutes to put together and is absolutely delicious!

The flavors in this crostini recipe can be varied depending on your own personal tastes. Change up the cheese and try brie or blue cheese. Use slivered almonds or chopped walnuts instead of the pecans. Or you could try any number of fresh herbs rather than thyme. I chose what I had handy in the house and garden this week. Next week it may be completely different! You should always have fresh herbs available to spice up your next recipe. If you want to have herbs year round, invest in a kitchen herb garden. You will love having fresh herbs on hand at all times!
Assembly and presentation for this pear crostini recipe is quick and easy. Slice your baguette into ½ inch or so slices. Top with a bit of cheese and warm in the oven for a few minutes. Then, just top with pear slices, a few chopped nuts and herbs and a drizzle of honey. You should assemble them right before serving so they are still warm when your guests eat them. A half a baguette will make about 15 or so appetizers so you won't need much!
