Every year I make homemade candy for friend, family, teachers and random people who stop by unexpectedly with gifts. Doesn’t that just put you in an awkward situation? Someone shows up at your house with a box of Christmas cookies or some homemade bread and you did not even stop to think that maybe you should have given them something? I always designate a few boxes of my homemade candy as ’emergency’ gifts! This is a really easy to make recipe for homemade candy and you can find most of the ingredients either in the grocery store or a craft store like Michaels. For a homemade double boiler, put a pot of water on the stove with only a few inches of water in the bottom. Turn the water on medium/low and put a large glass bowl over it so it sets just above or barely touching the water. Put your chocolate in there to melt, stirring occasionally. No need to have a specialty double boiler that just takes up space in your cabinet all year if you are only going to use it on homemade candy in December!
Homemade Candy Recipe: Cherry Nut Truffles
Cherry Nut Truffles
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds white chocolate bark or wafers
- 1 cup marshmallow creme
- 1/2 cup cherry preserves
- 1/4 tsp cherry flavoring
- 1/2 tsp almond extract
- 1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts
- melted chocolate coating for dipping
Instructions
- In a double boiler, melt white chocolate coating, stirring until smooth.
- Add in the marshmallow creme, preserves, and both flavorings. Stir until well blended.
- Let sit in a cool place for 30 minutes to firm up. You may see some liquid forming at the edges. You can pour off or just let it harden and avoid those spots when using your filling.
- Form the center in 1 1/2 inch balls using either a small melon baller or just pinching off small pieces and rolling them.
- Dip each ball into melted chocolate using a dipping spoon if you have one. (They make candy dipping much easier and you can find them fairly cheap in most craft stores)
- You can decorate the tops with finely chopped nuts when wet or let the chocolate firm up and write on them with a candy writer for added color.
I will have to try this, looks so yummy! Thanks! 😀
