Have your kids ever done anything so incredibly hilarious that you had to laugh?  But really SHOULDN’T laugh because that would send a really bad message?  Are there days that you find yourself hiding in the bathroom just trying to get a few peaceful moments to yourself?  Or maybe you are the mom that hides cookies in a trail mix box just so your kids don’t eat them all before you get your chocolate fix for the day?  Am I the only one who does that? Motherhood can be fun but it can also be stressful and a whole heck of a lot of work.  Don’t you wish there was a TV show that portrayed motherhood to it’s fullest without making it seem perfect?  I am NOT a perfect mom. Well, FX Better Things is the full motherhood experience in one funny TV show.

FX Better Things: The Full Motherhood Experience

FX Better Things

Better Things is a new comedy on FX  starring Adlon as “Sam Fox,” a single, working actor with no filter trying to raise her three daughters in Los Angeles. She is mom, dad, referee and the cops. Sort of sounds like all the rest of us stressed out moms, right?

Sam also watches out for her mother, an English expatriate, who lives across the street. Sam’s just trying to earn a living, navigate her daughters’ lives, have fun with a friend or two and also — just maybe — squeeze in some private time once in a while.  Doesn’t that sound nice?  Private time?  Not sure when I last had THAT!

Don’t you get tired of seeing all the ‘perfect moms’?  The perfect Pinterest crafts and the spotless houses?  Where are the carpet stains from the toddler who decided to try taking the lid off his sippy cup when there was grape juice in it?  Or trying to find that perfect balance between stalking your teen’s social media accounts and letting them have the freedom to grow up?

Or trying to carve out just a few minutes at night to snuggle in bed and listen to how their day went?  Those are the truly important moments!  I am not a perfect mom and am definitely looking forward to seeing how Better Things really portrays motherhood over the next few weeks!

  1. I like the Bed Eye clip best of the clips. I like it because I hate being disturbed when I’m sleeping and like to just sink down under the covers.

  2. I cant imagine raising 3 girls alone. I relate to her being a single mom. I watched the First Look clip and enjoyed getting the main character’s perspective on it.

  3. I have many of times screamed into a pillow with utter frustration. This show looks so good! I can relate by having an emotional teenager with mood swings up and down. Can’t wait to watch it.

  4. The “smoke detector” clip is the one that convinced me to watch the show. There’s something about a child attached to you like a starfish while you have to manage several crises (e.g., teenager having party, errant smoke detector) that perfectly encapsulates what actual motherhood is like.
