My daughter has incredibly thick hair that is also very dry. The combination of the two means that some days she practically looks like a lion with her hair poofed up around her head! Now that summer is here and she is in and out of the pool every day, the problem is even worse. Nothing like chlorine to strip the oils from your hair completely. We have tried different shampoos and conditioners. We have tried leave in conditioning lotions, sprays, and oils. Nothing has helped much so far but wow are we going broke buying all these hair products! I decided to try to make a homemade hair mask to save us a few pennies while we deal with her dry hair.

Homemade hair masks can include a number of high protein, high fat food ingredients. I found some that had milk and honey, others than used avocados and a few that included mayonnaise. I combined a few of the recommended hair mask ingredients that I actually had in my pantry, added some essential oil and whipped it up in my Kitchenaid mixer. The resulting hair mask is light and fluffy with an amazing scent!
