Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day and not one I never skip if I can help it. On busy days I may only grab a protein bar on the way out the door. Those days make me cranky! Tips for making smoothie bowls
Now, this is the first time I have ever made a smoothie bowl. I am going to give you a tip if you want it to come out pretty like all those fancy Pinterest photos you see. You MUST start with frozen fruit.
Without frozen fruit, your smoothie is pretty much a liquid and anything you stick on top of it is going to sink. Yes, I learned this the hard way. Plan ahead if you want a smoothie bowl to start your day.
All the add ins will not sit prettily on top of a liquid smoothie. Of course, not everyone wants a photo worthy breakfast. It tastes just fine if you just toss all your mixins INTO the smoothie bowl. But it is also hard to eat a liquid smoothie with a spoon. So, FREEZE your fruit!
How to make this smoothie bowl recipe
There are a couple of things you may want to buy to help you make this dark chocolate cherry breakfast smoothie bowl recipe. A cherry pitter tool is a handy little gadget that I USED to have and apparently got rid of at some point. That will teach me to declutter my kitchen, right? I used a knife and my fingers. It was an incredibly messy job but not too difficult.

You will also want to invest in a good chocolate protein powder. You could use a small amount of cocoa powder instead of the chocolate protein powder but you don’t get that extra boost of protein to fill you up in the morning. It’s still a healthy breakfast, though, even without the protein.
Overall, this dark chocolate cherry breakfast smoothie bowl recipe was delicious and easy to make. I am now fueled to tackle the rest of what life throws my way today. After I clean up the kitchen, of course!
