I have a confession to make. I have walked into a restaurant and ordered fried mozzarella sticks for lunch. Hey, that meal includes a dairy, a bread product AND a vegetable as long as I dip it in marinara sauce! That is totally healthy, right? Okay, I know I have a cheese addiction but those things are just delicious! I decided to indulge my love of cheese today and make this baked mozzarella sticks recipe as a treat. It definitely made a tasty snack and would be an easy appetizer recipe if you were having company.
Normally baked mozzarella sticks are dipped in an egg wash of sorts, breaded, and then baked. However, that is a bit of a mess. I was browsing around Pinterest and came across a recipe for baked mozzarella sticks at Averie Cooks that looked easy and delicious. This mozzarella sticks recipe uses egg roll wrappers to wrap up the cheese and then you bake it. I decided to add a kick of heat since I still have a ton of hot peppers out in the garden.
Seriously, this easy appetizer recipe couldn’t be more simpler. One mozzarella stick, one egg roll wrapper, a sprinkling of diced hot peppers and a brushing of olive oil. I put the rolled up cheese sticks on a silicone baking sheet before baking because I knew I ran the risk of exploding cheese everywhere. I was happily surprised, however, that only one or two of them actually leaked. Just make sure you tuck the edges in and roll it rather snugly before you bake.
I picked up a nice jar of marinara sauce to dip these mozzarella sticks in but honestly, a bowl of your favorite spaghetti sauce works just fine as well. When these come out of the oven, let them cool for just a minute or two and then enjoy. You want them still slightly gooey but not so hot you burn the inside of your mouth!
