I am lucky that my family is very active. They run, play tennis, do martial arts, etc. That leaves me with 4 pairs of sneakers that end up smelling not so fresh by the end of the week. Since I can’t afford to buy everyone new sneakers when they start to smell toxic, I decided to start trying to freshen them naturally with a few ingredients I had lying around the house. This is a very simple way to keep your family’s sneakers smelling fresh. If you are dealing with a stinky teenage boy like I am, you will find this odor control tip very helpful!
Easy Odor Control For Shoes
1 cup baking soda
10 drops tea tree oil
3 to 4 TBSP fresh herbs. Lavender and rosemary are great choices.
glass bowl and spoon for mixing
small socks without holes, muslin or cloth bags, etc for filling
ribbon for tying the sachet closed
1. In a small bowl, combine the baking soda, tea tree oil, and fresh herbs. Mix gently.
2. Using a spoon, transfer about 1/4 cup of this mixture into each sock or muslin bag
3. Tie off the bag or sock with a drawstring or a few pieces of ribbon.
4. Place one sneaker sachet in each offending shoe. Don’t worry if some of the mixture ends up coming out of the bag and ends up in the shoe. It will just be even more effective at odor control!
This little project is a great way to combat foot odors naturally. There really is no reason to buy expensive sprays and inserts just to control foot odor. Do you have any other creative ways to keep your sneakers smelling fresh?
