I am a huge fan of cheese…it is a bit of an obsession really and I put it on just about everything you can imagine. Whether it is cheddar, cream cheese, pizza or queso I truly think everything tastes better with cheese on it. Of course, this is not exactly a great way for me to watch my caloric intake! Up until now I have been a little hesitant in trying low fat or light cheeses for fear that they just wouldn’t satisfy my cheese craving. I was asked to participate in the Weight Watchers Cheese blog review and was eager to find out exactly how satisfying their selection of products really are. I am sure you are familiar with Weight Watchers as a diet plan but did you know that they also sell supermarket foods?
The Weight Watchers grocery store food products include cheese, cookies, breads, chocolate candies, frozen novelties, yogurts, snack cakes and muffins. They are available at grocery stores and mass merchandisers throughout the country. They are a great way for you do indulge your craving for certain foods without totally destroying your diet plan.
So, for my review, I received several Weight Watchers products to try out including the

Jalapeno Pepper Wedges
Reduced Fat Pepper Jack Singles
I tried these Weight Watchers cheeses out several different ways over the last couple of weeks. I used the herbed cream cheese as a dip with fresh garden green beans. I meant for it to be a snack for myself but my son discovered the plate and quickly inhaled half a plate of green beans! Then the next day he asked for more! The cream cheese spread is rich and flavorful and if it gets my kid to eat a plate full of green beans he can have it! I also used the Weight Watchers strawberry cream cheese spread as a dip with fresh apple slices and once again it was creamy and delicious and we all made quick work of 3 apples! What a great way to encourage everyone in the house to eat more fruits and veggies!
Weight Watchers Low Fat Cream Cheese Spread
The true test of a cheese’s tastiness is whether or not my husband will eat it! He isn’t really known for being open minded when it comes to low fat foods. We made some sweet and spicy burgers on the grill and we were all really impressed. The Jalapeno Pepper Flavored Cheese Wedges melted just enough to be gooey inside the burger but didn’t run all over the place while it was cooking. The Pepper Jack Singles Cheese melted beautifully on top of the burger and there was just a touch of heat to it. Absolutely yummy. The texture of the cheese by itself is similar to American or Monterrey Jack cheese and they had a really nice flavor. Here is the recipe for the burgers that we used (I had to omit the lettuce since I didn’t have any!
Weight Watchers “Bring a Little Heat” Burgers
Serving size: 1 burger
Weight Watchers® PointsPlus® value: 7 per serving
3 tablespoons fat-free mayonnaise
1 tablespoon medium home-style salsa (I used pineapple salsa to add some sweetness to the spiciness!)
1 pound 99 percent fat-free ground turkey breast
4 Weight Watchers Jalapeno Pepper Flavored Cheese Wedges
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 slices Weight Watchers Pepper Jack Singles Cheese – cut in half from corner to corner into triangles
4 light hamburger buns
4 pieces green leaf lettuce
- In a small mixing bowl mix together mayo and salsa. Set aside.
- Divide ground turkey into 4 equal sized rounds. Make 2 equal-sized patties out of each round so you have 8 patties total.
- Flatten each cheese wedge into a small circle. Place the cheese circles on top of 4 of the patties, and top with remaining patties, and pinch the ground turkey around the edges to seal burgers closed.
- Place patties on parchment paper and flatten a little bit more with your hand or with deli paper.
- Season each burger with fresh ground pepper.
- Grill until cooked through, about 5 minutes per side to an internal temperature of 165ºF.
- Just before you remove the burgers place a triangle of cheese on each burger.
- Place a burger on each bun and top with lettuce and salsa mayo. Serve immediately.
Overall, I am very impressed with the flavor of all of the products that I received to try. If you are looking for a way to cut calories without feeling like you have to give up ALL the yummy stuff, this is a great solution!
