Let ALDI Help You Entertain this Holiday with a Few Simple Tips!

Last Updated on November 15, 2013 by

One of my favorite parts about this time of year is having an excuse to get together with friends for some much needed socializing and relaxing.  Most of the year is so crazy busy with kid’s activities and school projects that there isn’t any time or energy for just hanging out with friends.  For 2 weeks over Christmas break there is no homework, no getting up early for math help sessions and very few extracurricular activities.   Plenty of time to kick back and have a glass of wine and tasty food with friends.  I try and keep the house well stocked with the makings of simple party foods so that when we get a last minute invitation to a party we can throw something together to bring.  My favorite party foods have always been appetizers and I have tons of cookbooks with creative appetizer recipes that are simple to make.  ALDI is a great place to shop for holiday entertaining needs.  They have a great selections of items that are perfect for a night out with friends but that are inexpensive enough to fit in my very tight budget this month.  And, if you need a last minute gift idea or even just a gallon of milk and some fruit you will find those at ALDI too.  Browse through the ALDI Suggested Shopping Items if you want a few tips on what to buy on your next visit.

One of the things I love about ALDI (besides the price) is that they have a great selection of already prepared foods but they also have tons of simple ingredients as well.  Their prices on dried fruit, nuts, cheese, and many other basic pantry staples are very reasonable.  On my recent shopping trip I bought all the ingredients I needed for my Cranberry Walnut Goat Cheese Log but also stocked up on a few staples like peanut butter and a couple of premade appetizers to keep in the freezer.  That way, I don’t have to run out to the store when we get a call from friends to come over and visit.  I also grabbed some wine, too.  ALDI has a great selection of wine that is very inexpensive, too.  I have tried several varieties over the last few years and have always been very pleased.   Not sure what wine to bring with your dish to the holiday party?  Check out the ALDI Wine Pairing Tips for some help.

I also want to share a few tips for shopping at ALDI that might be helpful.  When you go, don’t forget to bring a quarter to get a cart!  ALDI keeps costs down by making sure you return your cart to the proper spot.   Put a quarter into the device on the handle to unlock the cart and when you are done and return your cart you get your quarter back.  Also, don’t forget to bring your own bags from home.  ALDI keeps their costs lower by not supplying bags for you.  Also, they do not take credit cards so make sure you come with a debit card or cash.    All of these steps that ALDI takes are ways to pass the savings on to YOU.  I appreciate that when I check out!  I had a great time exploring ALDI last week and picked up a lot of groceries for a very small price.  Check out the delicious Cranberry Walnut Goat Cheese Log that I made…just click on the image below to get the recipe!

If you are entertaining this holiday season, here are a few Holiday Entertaining Tips from ALDI to help you get started:

Keep it Simple. When planning your holiday party, don’t overthink it. If you try to do too much, you’ll end up unable to enjoy the event you’ve worked so hard to put together.

Somewhat Homemade  Combine a few homemade items with store bought ones to help ease your work load while still wowwing your friends

Don’t Forget the Kids. If you’re expecting children at your event, prepare a couple child-friendly dishes that adults will enjoy too.   While I am adamant about my own kids trying new foods, many people have children that are very picky eaters.  Put out a plate of fruit or some crackers that even picky kids will like.

Small Bites. A hot trend this entertaining season is to serve small “bites” at your party. Serve homemade appetizers alongside gourmet and artisan cheeses.  I enjoy serving appetizers because they can usually be eaten while standing and chatting and don’t require a fork and knife.

Plan ahead. This seems simple, but occasionally time gets away from us during the  holiday season. Map out your menu, table settings and décor needs in advance so you know your shopping list is complete.
