Candy Corn: Love it or Hate it?
Can I just let you all in on a little secret? I actually LIKE candy corn. I know...it is gross and artificially flavored and colored and leaves that weird taste in your mouth but for some reason I actually like the stuff. Now, don't get me wrong....I don't want to sit down and eat a bowl of it or anything. But a few pieces here or there right around Halloween is a huge treat.

Looking for Halloween fruit ideas? This one is perfect! I decided to combine my love of candy corn with my need to eat healthier and this candy corn fruit parfait is the result! A healthy Halloween dessert (or breakfast!) that makes me feel good about my diet choices while still allowing me just a tad bit of a treat at the same time. If you don't like candy corn at all you can omit it completely and your dessert will still be just as delicious!
Fresh vs Canned Fruit
I chose to use fresh pineapple for this dessert because I prefer the flavor of it over canned pineapple. However, I did use canned mandarin oranges because I am lazy and didn't feel like peeling them all! Which you choose if really just a personal preference and what you can find at the grocery store. And, of course, what your budget allows. Fresh pineapple isn't cheap, even if it does taste better!
How do you make homemade whipped cream?
I topped my Halloween fruit parfait recipe with homemade whipped cream. I sweetened it with a bit of powdered sugar and added a bit of real vanilla to it. If you prefer the squirty stuff in a can, that would work, too. If you want to top this candy corn parfait with real whipped cream, here is a quick how to:
- Place the mixer bowl and whisk in the freezer for 10 minutes or so to chill.
- Pour heavy whipping cream, sugar and vanilla into the cold bowl.
- Whisk on high speed until medium to stiff peaks form. This should take about 1 minute. Do not over beat!
- Use on your favorite dessert recipes!

I like candy corn too even tho it out of my norm - really artificial with a weird texture and all. I don't buy it any time other then Halloween tho. I like it, but don't love it. But it is nice for a treat 🙂
These cups are such a cute idea! The kids want a Halloween party this year and these would be a cute addition to the food.

I love candy corn but only in very small doses at Halloween. Other than that, I have no interest in it. Glad you liked the recipe!

Would it be possible to make these a day ahead would the whipped topping keep it's shape?
Diane Hoffmaster
I would not make them up ahead of time. I recommend preparing the fruit ahead of time but layering and whipped cream should be done right before serving for best results.
