Hate dust bunnies? You’ll love the Hoover WindTunnel!

I must admit, I have a bit of an obsession when it comes to vacuuming.  I can’t stand to see my floors dirty but with 2 kids and a very large, hairy dog it seems like there are always piles of STUFF all over the floor.  Dog hair, cracker crumbs, grass clippings from when I water the garden barefoot and come in with wet feet….I seem to pull out my vacuum on a regular basis.  My biggest issue with my current vacuum?  It weighs a TON.  I mean, I am constantly asking my husband to carry it up and down the stairs for me because I can’t carry it.  So, when I got invited to try the Hoover WindTunnel Air Bagless Upright my husband and I were BOTH thrilled.  I guess he was getting pretty tired of lugging that thing up and down the stairs!  I am sure you are familiar with Hoover since they have been around for so long but if you aren’t, here is some information about them from their website:

For more than 100 years, Hoover® has designed powerful, easy-to-use products that clean your entire home from floor to ceiling, and even the very air you breathe. That’s why we’re a household icon and one of the most trusted brands in America – Hoover® Nobody does it like you™.

I received the Hoover WindTunnel Air Bagless Upright (shown above) to try out and we have been very happy with how it performs so far.  Here are a few facts you should know about this particular model:

  • Only 12.4 pounds – the lightest Hoover® full-size bagless upright available
  • Intuitive Power Controls – conveniently positioned where they should be
  • Brushroll Shut-Off – automatically turns off when vacuum is put in upright position
  • Fabulous Filtration – multi-cyclonic filtration system, rinsable filter and a high-quality filter made with HEPA media. HEPA media traps 99.97% of dirt, dust and pollens down to 0.3microns.
  • Carry Handle – on top of dirt cup so you can easily lift the lightweight vacuum for moving up or down stairs
  • 30′ Power Cord – vacuum a large room without re-plugging
  • Deep Recline Handle – lets machine recline flat to clean under furniture
  • 30″ Extension Wand – extends reach of the hose

Basically, the Hoover WindTunnel is a lightweight vacuum with some heavy weight suction.  There is a little ‘mini cyclone’ inside there that filters the air as it swirls around and leaves almost nothing behind but clean air!  It is designed to minimize ‘scatter’ on your floors…so when your kid’s rice baby falls apart and leaves rice all over the floor you don’t have to worry about the vacuum cleaner blowing all the rice into adjacent rooms!

So, what do I think of the Hoover WindTunnel?  I am really impressed with how light this vacuum is and despite it’s relatively small size, it has an incredibly powerful suction.  I vacuum every week and the Hoover WindTunnel sucked up a TON of stuff from my floors.  Actually, a scary amount….I think my old vacuum was just pushing the dirt around instead of sucking it up!  Here are a few features I really enjoyed about the  Hoover WindTunnel:

Cord Length:  Love the nice long cord.  I plugged it in about the center of the house and got almost from one end to the other without moving the plug.  This is helpful when I am in a hurry!

Adjustable handle length:  My old vacuum does not have that and my 6 foot 3 inch husband would have to hunch over to vacuum.  This is much more comfortable for him to use.  And I am all for him doing more vacuuming!

Ease of Cleaning:  Just a push of a button ad the chamber housing all of the dirt comes right out.  No touching involved in getting the dirt out.  Just dump it over the trash can and reassemble.

Suction: As I mentioned earlier, this is a powerful vacuum and I think my floors are cleaner than they have been in years!

Weight:  Very light, no problem carrying this up the stairs one handed with the convenient handle on top of the unit.

With all of the hoses and the attachable arm, you have a LOT of reach with this vacuum.  You can easily reach the ceiling corners if you need to suck up cobwebs.  It is easy to convert from the hose attachment to the regular mode so you can get all the areas in one room and then move on.

There were one or two things I might change about this unit but they were pretty minor.  I have a couple of spots in my house where I like to use a wide, skinny attachment (under our large bird cage or on the dog bed) and I didn’t really have the right tool to do that with.  But, then I realized that my old vacuum cleaner parts worked on the Hoover WindTunnel so I used those.  There must be some ‘standard’ that attachments are made for?  The only other thing I think requires mentioning is that you do have to empty the dust catching cup fairly frequently.  It is relatively small and I started with an empty cup, emptied half way through the house and am almost full at the end of the house.  Of course, I have a pretty decent sized house and a very hairy dog.  Your experiences may vary.

Overall, I am very impressed with this vacuum.  It is extremely lightweight but still very powerful, even when you are using the hose attachment.  There is a push button to turn the brush head on and off so whether you have carpets, hardwood, or a combination of the two this should be a good selection for you.  Now, if I could just find someone to actually do the vacuuming for me it would be perfect!
