Grilled Pork Roast with Spicy Pomegranate Sauce

Last Updated on

My husband  and I are HUGE fans of our Green Egg grill.  If you aren’t familiar with the Green Egg, it’s a ceramic grill that is perfect for cooking your roasts low and slow to really get a smokey flavor infused into the meat.  I recently received the cookbook Hot Sauce!: Techniques for Making Signature Hot Sauces, with 32 Recipes to Get You Started; Includes 60 Recipes for Using Your Hot Sauces to review and found a spicy pomegranate sauce recipe that I thought would go perfectly with our pork roast.

  • 1 cup POM pomegranate juice
  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 TBSP toasted hazelnuts, finely chopped
  • 2 jalapenos (seeded and chopped)
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 2 TBSP honey

  1. Heat the olive oil in a medium saucepan
  2. Add the minced garlic and saute for about 1 minute
  3. Add remaining ingredients and mix well
  4. Bring mixture to a boil and reduce heat. Simmer for approximately 30 minutes, until liquid becomes slightly thick and syrupy
  5. Puree in a food processor or blender until smooth and serve warm. It will keep refrigerated for several days
  6. For the pork roast:
  7. You will want one small pork roast (ours was about 2 to 3 pounds)
  8. Grill according to your own grill and personal tastes. We smoke with wood chips and grilled over medium heat (325) until desired doneness. Ours took about 90 minutes and we leave a tad bit of pink in the middle.
  9. Slice the pork roast and drizzle with the sauce. You can also make a large volume of sauce and use it as a marinade.
