Cinnamon Streusel Cupcake Recipe and a Hey Shuga! #Giveaway (#spon)

This Cinnamon Streusel Cupcake Recipe is sponsored by Hey Shuga! sugar cane syrup but all opinion expressed are my own.My kids are huge fans of dessert and one of their all time favorite sweets is cupcakes.  What kid doesn't like cupcakes, right?  Well, my big thing against cupcakes is the frosting.  Not only do I think most frosting is sickeningly sweet, but I am also horrible at the actual frosting of the cupcake.  No matter how hard I try, I end up with crumbs in it with bits of frosting just about everywhere.  … [Read more...]

Sweet and Spicy Chicken Wing Recipe

My husband has managed to get my kids addicted to chicken wings and every time we head out to a restaurant, that is what they enjoy getting.  Since I cannot afford for them to go out to eat every week, I figured I needed to find a recipe to easily make them at home.  I love the combination of sweet and spicy flavors combined together and this recipe has a great balance.  It is not flaming hot so if you want MORE heat, just kick it up with some cayenne pepper in the dipping sauce right before you serve it.  I warn you though, put down some … [Read more...]

This recipe for Honey Bunches of Oats Quick Bread Recipe has been sponsored by Mom It Forward and Honey Bunches of Oats. All opinions are mine and mine alone.I love to make quick bread for my family because they are incredibly easy and I can hide all sorts of good things in them. They are sweet enough for my kids to think they are eating dessert without realizing that they are actually eating something slightly healthy for them. Whole grains, seeds, and dried fruits are all great things to throw into a quick bread recipe next time you feel … [Read more...]

How to Make Homemade Applesauce

Making homemade applesauce is not hard.  Honestly you only need a few ingredients, a pot and a spoon.  Unless you have access to your  own apple trees, making homemade applesauce is not going to be particularly cheap.  I live in Georgia and buy organic apples.  My small batch of homemade applesauce this weekend cost me about $7 and fed 4 people as a side dish with our pork roast.  So, why make homemade applesauce when it is expensive and so easy to find prepackaged at the grocery store?  Because, honestly, you have never tasted anything so … [Read more...]

Homemade Vanilla Pudding Recipe

So, my children think I am the meanest mom every created.  WHY?  Because I don't buy them things like pudding and jello and those artificial squeeze bottles of milk flavorings.  While I splurge occasionally and I am not going to say my kids NEVER get store bought treats like that, I try to make it a very rare occurrence.  I have been trying to find homemade solutions to some of these treats that will show my children that I am NOT a horrible mother.  They certainly do not care if they eat artificial colors, preservatives and chemicals at every … [Read more...]

Easy Vegetarian Recipe: Creamy Pasta And Vegetables

Well, we are counting down to the end of Lent and I am constantly on the hunt for a new vegetarian recipe to make for my family. Since my son gave up meat for Lent, we have gotten creative with a number of new pasta and rice based dishes, eaten lots of eggs, and have tried just about every vegetarian 'meat' type product on the market. I am running out of ideas and the boy has already asked me to please put bacon on the menu for Easter morning. While we always eat a lot of vegetarian meals, I admit it is much easier for me to come up with ideas … [Read more...]

Potato Leek Soup #Recipe

My son gave up meat for Lent this year so all of us have significantly reduced our meat intake this month.  Since mommy isn't making 2 separate dinners every night, I have been trying to get creative with high protein, non meat based meals.  Some great alternatives to meat for protein are beans, lentils, eggs, nuts, and dairy. Plant based proteins lack vitamin B12 so nutritional yeast makes a great supplement to add into the diet.  Nutritional yeast is just what it sounds like...a nutritious yeast supplement.  It isn't live so you can't use it … [Read more...]

Easy Garlic Cheese Biscuits #Recipe

I have a growing teenage boy in my house who's appetite rivals that of most football players.  Dinners must include large quantities of carbs in order to fill him up.  Oh, sure, there is meat, veggies, milk and all those other food groups, too.  However what really sticks to the ribs and gets him to say 'I'm full' is the carbohydrates.  Most dinners I make include rolls, bread, or biscuits of some sort.  Many years ago I found a recipe for garlic cheese biscuits on the Bisquick box and have been playing around with it ever since.  It is a huge … [Read more...]

Chimichurri Dipping Sauce and Marinade #Recipe

My husband and I get our beef from a small, local farmer and we do a fair amount of grilling.  One of the perks of living in the south is that I can grill in January. (Okay, well, my HUSBAND can grill in January!)  I like to find unique marinades and sauces that will compliment the bold flavor of a grilled grass fed steak and this Chimichurri dipping sauce and marinade looked like a great blend of fresh flavors.  I found the recipe in the Big Green Egg Cookbook: Celebrating the World's Best Smoker and Grill cookbook that I got for my husband … [Read more...]

Sweet and Spicy Stuffed Peppers

When I was growing up my mom used to love making stuffed peppers.  I actually cannot remember what she stuffed them WITH but I remember eating them a fair amount. I decided to play around with a combination of sweet and spicy flavors as a filling to this recipe.  I used a spicy Italian sausage but you could use ground beef or ground turkey if you wanted.  You would need to add a bit more flavor and heat, though, to give the filling a kick.  These stuffed peppers fed my family of 4 for 2 nights.  I used some pretty big peppers and still had a … [Read more...]
