School is starting back soon (mine have already started!) and the list of school supplies they need is LONG. Notebooks, pens, highlighters…not to mention the new clothes, shoes and back to school haircuts. One thing my kids and I always struggle with buying is new backpacks. They want something stylish but I want something that is going to be functional. I was recently sent a backpack from Ark Clothing to try out and if your kids are as picky about ‘style’ as mine are, I think this is a pack they will like.
Ark is all about fashion and creating styles that are hip yet functional. Their products are inspired by the past in terms of colors, graphics and even materials. Most of their ideas lean towards the 70’s but a few 1980’s concepts have made their way into the lineup as well. Ark Clothes offers everything from clothing and jackets to jewelry and accessories. They have an extensive collection of vintage bags to choose from as well. Whether you are looking for a small clutch, laptop sleeve or backpack, their bags are all really hip in terms of material, colors, and design.
For my review, I received the Alpine Bag in green. (the same model as the one shown above in Khaki…it also comes in black) It is 100% thick weave canvas, with real leather-like (aka vinyl) accents. This is a rugged looking pack that seems to yell both ‘urban’ and ‘rustic’ at the same time. Here are a few of the key features of this bag:
- Heavy duty distressed looking canvas
- Plenty of storage for laptops or books
- Antique brass fittings
- Grommet headphone cord access and hidden flap pocket
- Easy snap access hidden under vintage-looking buckles
So, my opinion: The first thing I noticed about this bag is how sturdy the material is. It is extremely thick and I think it will stand up nicely to entire year of my kid throwing it around the bus! The straps are very heavy weight and are a pin in hole style closure similar to a belt. There is a pocket on the lower front of the pack that would work well for pens, pencils, calculators, etc. The large main section is extremely roomy and has a drawstring closure to keep things inside if it gets turned upside down. There is another pocket on the inside of the top flap that is zippered and would be good for keys, money, and cell phone.
Alpine Backpack from Ark Clothes
This pack is designed to be retro in nature which means it doesn’t have the modern zipper compartments, bungee cords, velcro, etc. There is also no padding on the straps. While I don’t think this would be a good fit for a small child, I do think it would work well for a hip (or hip wanna be) college kid or someone that doesn’t have HUGE loads to carry around all day.
I love the look of this pack and it seems like it is extremely well made. I think it will hold up well to a lot of wear and tear and allow the person wearing it to look less ‘studious’ and more ‘cool’ than they would with a traditional modern looking pack.
Ark Clothing has given me permission to give one of my readers the pack shown above in their choice of color. Follow the directions in the Rafflecopter form below. This giveaway ends at midnight EST on August 31st, 2012.
