How to Make Your Ipad Run Faster (a guide for the NON techy person!)

How to Make Your Ipad Run Faster (a guide for the NON techy person!)

I pretty much live on my iPad...to the point where I can feel the heart palpitations starting when I cannot locate it.  I have it synced up to 7 email accounts and it holds 5 years worth of ebooks that I may never read again but don't want to lose.  My iPad is how I find the phone number to just about every place I have ever visited and it keeps me busy in the carpool lane when I need to kill 20 minutes waiting for my daughter. However, my beloved iPad is starting to show it's age and I find myself getting more and more frustrated with it's inability to work as quickly as it used to.  I have suffered in silence for a year until yesterday.  It should not take 3 minutes to load Facebook on my iPad, right?  I went in search of a solution and learned a ton of tips on how to make your iPad run … [Read more...]

Affordable French Cuisine from la Madeleine

Affordable French Cuisine from la Madeleine

I received a gift card to la Madeleine in order to try out their affordable French cuisine but all opinions are my own. I have always enjoyed trying foods from many different regions around the world.  I have recreated many of them in my own kitchen...from Greek spanakopita to German Kaiserschmarrn and many others in between.  However, French cuisine has never been one I tried to recreate myself.  I'm not sure why but French cuisine has always intimidated me a little bit!  So, when I get a craving for French Onion Soup, Croissants or Quiche Florentine I tend to head somewhere other than my own kitchen.  Last week I was lucky enough to head over to la Madeleine with a friend for a very delicious girls afternoon out! Affordable French Cuisine from la Madeleine We have a la Madeleine … [Read more...]

If you are looking for things to do in Atlanta you will certainly not have trouble finding them.  Like most major cities, Atlanta is home to a number of tourist attractions.  From CNN and The World of Coke to the Georgia Aquarium and Fernbank Museum of Natural History, there is something for everyone looking for fun things to do in Atlanta.  But, what if you are looking for something a little less 'touristy'?  What if you want to get off the beaten track and find some really UNIQUE things to do in Atlanta?  Well, this weekend my husband and I toured a bit of Atlanta that not everyone gets to see! My husband and I are total foodies and very conscious of where that food is coming from.  When we are looking for restaurants in Atlanta, rarely do we choose to eat at a 'chain' … [Read more...]

Movies for Teens: How do you Know Which Ones are Appropriate?

Movies for Teens: How do you Know Which Ones are Appropriate?

As of less than one month ago, I am officially the parent of two teenagers.  It's a rather scary thought, to be honest, and I seriously hope I don't screw it up somehow.  There are so many external factors that influence how our teenagers mature and very few of them do parents have any actual control over.  Teens get so much of their knowledge from peers, books, TV and movies that it's a wonder any of them become productive adults nowadays.  Have you seen what Hollywood is throwing at us left and right? Trying to decide which movies for teens are appropriate has become very difficult. I tend to be a fairly liberal parent but I still want to know what they are watching. When I actually sit down and check out some of their favorite YouTube stars or glance at their top teen sitcom choices … [Read more...]

Get Organized: How to Clean Up Your Digital Life

Get Organized: How to Clean Up Your Digital Life

January brings a renewed determination to get organized and simplify our lives.  We make lists of things to do, head to Target for assorted plastic storage bins, and then start purging our lives of unnecessary STUFF. These are great goals to have but what about the pigsty that lives inside our hard drive? How about the fact that 50% of the storage on our iPhones is taken up with photos of our last restaurant meal or some blurry picture of your kid running past you in a tutu? Are you going to deal with the fact that it takes your computer so long to download a website that you could go make yourself a ham sandwich in the time it takes for the site to finally be active?  NOW is the time to start spring cleaning your digital life to make yourself more productive in the new year! Get … [Read more...]

Teens and Technology: Negotiating the Holiday Wish List

Teens and Technology: Negotiating the Holiday Wish List

When my children were small, their holiday wish list was relatively easy to handle.  They wanted small things that were fairly inexpensive.  I bought tons of Legos (ok, not THAT cheap!) and art supplies (thankyou, Michaels coupons!) and they were happy as clams come Christmas morning.  But, now I have teenagers and all of a sudden my Christmas budget just isn't going to make a dent in the holiday wish list they have in their heads. The primary desire of my teenagers is to have as much technology as humanly possible to plug themselves into.  Since I am not made of money and technology isn't cheap, we are having to do some real analyzing of our holiday shopping agenda.  If you find yourself in this epic battle of technology wish list vs. budget as well, maybe this post will be … [Read more...]

Tailgating Essentials for Fall Sports Fans #BBNshops

Tailgating Essentials for Fall Sports Fans #BBNshops

This list of tailgating essentials has been provided by Boombox network but all opinions expressed are my own. This year I am suddenly the mother of a highschooler.  I was well prepared for an early morning bus pickup, a new schedule, and the trials and tribulations of my son making new friends.  What I was NOT prepared for, however, was highschool football.  All of a sudden, now that I have a highschool kid, I am expected to show an interest in highschool football.  I was in the band in highschool and attended every SINGLE highschool football game at my school for many years.  I swore I would have nothing else to do with highschool football ever again but I find myself in the bleachers anyhow while my kids hang around and socialize with their friends.  Lucky me!  So many of my friends … [Read more...]
