This Social Good post is sponsored by Johnson & Johnson and The Motherhood but all opinions expressed are my own.
Today is the first day of school for my children. My son is in 8th grade this year and is starting his third year in middle school. My daughter, however, is just starting 6th grade and this is her very FIRST day of middle school. She is nervous about going to a new school, making new friends and having new teachers. Middle school is not always easy for kids but I am keeping my fingers crossed that things go smoothly. Teenagers can be cruel sometimes and bullying becomes a real issue at this age. Anti bullying campaigns are just one of the social good initiatives that Johnson & Johnson's new Selfless Selfie Photo Donation App will help raise money for.
The Johnson & Johnson Donate a Photo app was launched in April 2013. This easy to use free app allows people to help raise money and awareness for causes that they care about by simply taking a photo and sharing it with their friends. Their new“Selfless Selfie” campaign encourages people to donate their “selfies” with the app and sharing it throughout social media. The hope is that your friends, family and followers will also be inspired to share a selfie and raise even more money for social good. How does sharing a photo raise money? For every photo shared through Donate a Photo, Johnson & Johnson will donate one dollar to one of its non-profit partners. The list of non profit partners that Johnson & Johnson works with rotates based on a number of factors. The Donate a Photo campaign just added three non-profit partners to its rotating list of causes:
-
- PFLAG: One photo helps protect a child from bullying
- Girl Up: One photo helps a girl in Liberia go back to school
- Safe Kids: One photo helps a child in Mexico get to school safely
More on The Causes:
PFLAG: All funds donated through the DAP PFLAG cause go to provide materials (brochures, flyers etc.) for anti-bullying sessions. These sessions reach students, teachers and school leaders with messages about cultivating respect and keeping schools safe for all.
Girl Up: All funds donated through the DAP Girl Up cause help provide outreach efforts to girls, parents and community leaders, provide literacy, numeracy and livelihood training to out of school girls, and helps establish local PTAs to champion girls’ education in Liberia. These efforts help girls return to and stay in school, often after years of absence.
Safe Kids: The Safe Kids Safe Roads initiative aims to teach children and parents about bike helmet and car seat safety. The program achieves these goals both through in-school sessions, as well as through awareness efforts via online promotions and social media.
When one cause reaches its goal, another takes its place; the causes that have reached their goal stay in the app, so users can continue to learn more about the organizations and see the photos that helped support them. You can donate a photo every day if you want to make the most of this social good project. The app is available for both iPhone and Android devices.
So, how do you start making a difference and using the app? Just visit donateaphoto.com to find out how to download the free Donate a Photo app and register to get started. Then choose a cause, upload a photo and share it on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to show the actions and impact to friends and followers and encourage them to get involved in helping, too. While all donations must be made through a mobile device, the experience itself (including a photo gallery, progress achieved for each non-profit partner, etc.) is accessible to anyone, on any device, from mobile phones to tablets to desktop computers
